"Claws that they attached, they clicked like stones." The rest of the pack mostly lazed around since they were not moving anywhere, though they were still alert. The Alpha watches Anna a little longer then continues. "We seek prey, you may join us."

Anna couldn't really see a reason to refuse, except maybe the fact that she couldn't hunt very well, and that she was supposed to be looking for the egg-thieves. But she could always come back later and follow the tracks. Besides, she was too curious to leave now, she wanted to see the pack hunt, and be part of it.
"I will join you," she said. "Lead on."

The pack of grey wolves moved out with Anna's white form trailing a little behind. They spread out quickly and quietly into three groups of two, the Alpha moved with Anna as the other pairs move away. The pack moved at a trot to begin with for a few minutes, then the pair to the side stopped and lowered themselves to the ground. The other pairs stop moments later and move in slightly, though Anna had lost sight of the pair to the right the others seemed to know where they were going. The pair to the right moved on again shortly, the entire pack moving slowly and stealthily now and Anna frequently lost track of the other pairs now they were trying to avoid being noticed. The reason they slowed became apparent shortly as Anna could make out a deer in the distance. The Alpha was crawling on his belly with Anna close behind and there was no sign of the other pairs at all. After crawling a little closer, the deer's head suddenly jerked upright and it looked around. The Alpha kept his slow approach with Anna, but the deer obviously knew something was up and suddenly it turned and bolted and Anna could then see it's herd as they joined in flight. The wolf pair to the left were suddenly visible as they gave chase to cut them off, and Anna almost rose to follow but the Alpha lain placidly beside her made her reconsider. The deer were moving too fast and the pair to the left slowed to a trot as the chase proved fruitless. The pack didn't stop stalking, regardless of failure. The constant tension set Anna's nerves on edge and as they moved in around the boar, she moved too quickly and alerted the boar before they were close enough for a chase to even be worth attempting. The boar went free and the six wolves didn't even move out of the undergrowth, they all knew the danger of wasting energy on a futile chase. Still unperturbed by failure, and an hour after they started, the pack find another deer to stalk. Cowed by her previous indiscretion, Anna kept low until someone else made the right move. This time the wolves made the first move, the Alpha sprung to his feet and headed off at a full sprint with Anna trailing behind. The deer responded a moment after he started running, turning and bolting away to the right. For a moment it looked like the Alpha would catch the prey in his first sprint alone, but the deer got enough speed to start pulling away before he caught up and Anna could feel sickening failure tugging at her again. Suddenly the first of right-hand pair leapt out, bowling the deer to the ground and the second of the pair bit at it's neck and ripped it open in a spray of blood. The other pair caught up a moment later and the six wolves stood around the dying animal. The Alpha moved in first, ripping at the deer's belly and devouring it's bowels and liver quickly.

Anna watched with morbid interest. She had expected to be a lot more horrified at the sight of the deer's insides being ripped out. Maybe it was because she was finally starting to think like a wolf, or because the horrifying things at the hive made everything else seem rather tame. Either way, the sight didn't make her feel sick.
Despite being a city wolf, Anna knew well enough to let the Alpha go first. She would never have thought of stripping raw uncooked flesh of a dead deer and eating it before, but somehow it didn't seem that alien anymore.
She had almost forgotten she was supposed to be doing something else.

The Alpha looked around at Anna, a strip of furry skin hanging from his mouth amidst the blood caking his face. He wasn't really sure what to do, man-wolves were always in charge but this one was acting so weak. Eventually fear won out over the thoughts of treating her as the runt and he moves back to allow her to feed second. A short snarl to his packmates kept them from contradicting this.

Anna hesitated at first. She had spent most of her Garou life being the runt of the pack, and wasn't quite used to being anything else. But wolves were treating her with a strange kind of respect, even fear. Finally, she stepped up next to the Alpha and tasted raw meat for the first time in her life. As she stripped the flesh off the deer's bones, she realised that the taste of blood, so disgusting to humans, didn't quite have the same nauseating effect. It was different in a fight. Then you didn't have time to think of what organ you were ripping from your enemy's body. Pretty soon she was finished, and stepped back with blood dripping from her jaws, letting the rest of the pack eat.

The rest of the pack fell on the tattered corpse once Anna had moved and began stripping away the organs, flesh, skin and even some smaller bones. Soon there was little left except the animal's larger bones with a few tatters of flesh hanging from them. The pack took to grooming each other, licking the blood from each other's coats, Anna wasn't really welcomed to this. She was still an outsider to the pack to some extent and though they'd give her the respect to let her feed pack bonding was a little too much to ask for a city wolf. When they were done, the Alpha turned around to face her again. "There is water near, we will drink." The pack moved off again, Anna in tow, and found a river nearby shortly. The pack drank, the water rinsing away the little remaining blood from their fur. While they were drinking though, one of the pack - the one that led them to the human tracks if Anna remembered right - suddenly lifts her head and starts looking around. The Alpha stops his drinking and watches expectantly until she whuffed a warning. "Man comes."

Anna stopped drinking and looked up. These could be the men she was waiting for. She suddenly remembered what she was here to do and felt slightly guilty at having wasted so much time.
For a moment she considered shifting to homid and just walking out and asking the men why they were taking the eggs, but she decided against it. She wondered if the others would run or hide, or do nothing.
"I have to see them," she said, looking for a place to hide where she could see what they would do.

The Alpha looked back around at Anna sharply. "Find them alone, we do not approach man." The rest of the pack stopped playing in the water and joined up around their Alpha. He looked over to one side to indicate to Anna which way the humans were, she couldn't really be sure where she was now after the hunt, only the direction she was pointed in. He watched her expectantly.

"I will," Anna said. "Thank you."
She let them go, her mind was now back on the task that the Owl had set. Slowly and as quietly as she could, she started in the direction they had pointed her, trying to remain unseen, or at least see them before they discovered her.

The adrenaline of the hunt had fought off what sleepiness Anna had left after the short sleep, but the full stomach wasn't helping things. Still, the day was still bright and Anna wasn't hungry anymore, so circumstances were a lot better than they had been. Even to Anna's occasionally oblivious senses, the humans were hard to miss. They were quite brazen in their activities, moving without stealth and talking quite openly. The large, red 4x4 was an eyesore in the presence of nature and was the first sign of them Anna saw, rather than heard. She couldn't make out the humans themselves at this distance of about a hundred metres, and their voices weren't raised enough for her to make out anything in particular.

Anna stayed as hidden and quiet as she could as she approached the car first, looking out for anything that would distinguish it and checking the car's plates to see where they were from. She made sure all the humans had left before she stepped up to it and took a look inside. That was probably not so easy in Lupus, so she shifted to homid to look through the windows.

The 4x4 was from Hamburg, going by the plates, and if she remembered rightly she was currently about halfway between Berlin and Hamburg. As Anna stood to examine the car it rapidly became apparent that though the men weren't moving with any stealth, they were certainly watching for trouble and Anna's investigation of the vehicle is interrupted by a shout. "Hey, you! What are you doing?" She'd been spotted and the men were making their way back to her at a walk. They were about fifteen metres away.

Anna jumped and turned around. For a few seconds, she just stood there dumbly and stared at the men. She blinked in the sunlight.
"I... got lost," she said, unable to think of a better lie on the spot. "What's going on here?"
Things can't get much worse than this, Anna thought. But I'm pretty sure she was wrong.

The men looked at each other, though Anna couldn't tell what was passed in the look. Now she was closer she could tell a bit more about them, they were ruggedly dressed and wore sturdy boots and gloves. One was slightly taller than the other, but otherwise physically they were men in their early thirties, both in good shape and certainly more than a match for Anna if she didn't use some sort of advantage. The first, slightly taller one, ignores her question as he replies. "Where are you from, kid? You're a long way from anywhere. You out here alone?"
