The Library looks different on this side of the gauntlet. It seems to be a much older version of the building on the physical side, which has been renovated and remodelled many times through the years.
The area around the building is home to many friendly spirits.

Max, Adiyah and Yvonne stopped near some trees and took stock of the area.
"I don't think I ever noticed how big this place actually is," Max said. "So are you ready?" he asked Adiyah.

Yvonne follows them along and looks around, then realises she doesn't really know what she's looking around for. So she turns to Adiyah. "I don't really know what to do with these things, so if you just tell me what to do I'll do my best to help out." She offers a smile, confident that everything would work.

In the silent peacefulness of the Caern, most rites seemed to come come naturally.
Adiyah had little experience summoning spirits as great as the caern's totem, but the presence of Max and Yvonne and their silent confidence gave her a sense of determination she didn't know she had in her. And so it took much less than she had expected to call upon the great incarna avatar of Owl.
His brood watched, growing in number as the ritual advanced, until scores of small spirits, many of which the three young Garou couldn't recognise, were staring intently at the Theurge.
And finally Owl heard the call.
He swooped down, his giant white wings producing a strong breeze as he landed. And he looked at the group of gathered Garou with his large black eyes, and spoke in a language for all of them to understand.
"Three fatherless children," he said. "You ask something of me?"

Adiyah had her head bowed reverently as Owl swooped down and alighted before them. At the wind that ruffled her hair and the sound of his voice her head snapped up and she regarded him, trying not to show that she was pleased that it had worked. With the support of her friends, they had called him. Now if only he could help.
She cleared her throat. "Thank you for answering wise Owl, yes, we ask and hope you can help us, please. We are searching for a garou who has hidden himself away, and since he had bonds with you, we hope you might know where we could look to find him."
She paused bowing her head slightly to him. "His name is Carsten Heller, also known as Hell-Rider. Do you know of him, great Owl?"

"Hmm, that I do," hooted Owl, regarding Adiyah with interest in his eyes. "I remember all the children of this Caern, those have left, those who have returned, and those who have passed on. Hell-Rider has done none of those."
He let his eyes pass over the three of them in turn, first Adiyah, then Max, then Yvonne, before finally settling back on Adiyah.
"Now is a good time to call back the heroes of old. We watch the skies and read the signs, as they are ours to watch and read. Prophecies of death are whispered among the spirits of the Night. A great war will be fought here, and your parts will be far from insignificant."
Owl paused again and seemed to consider the request.
"I will help you find the Owlet. But first, there is something you must do for us, for the Caern, for the battle that looms ahead."
It raised its white-feathered wing and with it, pointed North. "A day's journey north, you will find an ancient and powerful object that will turn the tide. Without it, we have little hope left. When darkness surrounds you, and breath has failed you, when time stands still and the beginning is the end, you will know you have found it."
Finally, he offered them one last piece of advice: "Fly fast, young ones, and seek your Spirit. For when you have found him, you will never be lost again."

Yvonne looks on in amazement at the spectacle, and is a little glad Owl speaks to Adiyah as she has no idea what she would say to it. She does manage to keep herself from gaping during the exchange, at least, and just manages a smile. Not wanting to appear impudent she doesn't speak up, instead looking to Adiyah to ask any quesitons.

"I..."
I just want to find my uncle.
He looked at Yvonne, who was just watching, and then at Adiyah, and back at the Owl, and quickly made a decision.
He gave Adiyah a meaningful nod. After all, how could they refuse now?

Adiyah listened intently to Owl, and all that he said. She swallowed when he mentioned the battle that was nearing, worried for her family. Wondering what she'd brought them into here. When he told them of the task, she only briefly glanced in Max's direction to catch the nod. Even without it, she probably would of said yes. When a spirit made a request of you, to turn it down was horrid and disrespectful. Unheard of to her. Add in that it was to protect and prolong this caern she was trying to call home, and well that sealed the deal. She didn't understand the confusing speech the spirit used, but knew it was often they spoke in riddles to be solved.
She nodded silent for a moment. "Of course we will do what you ask, Owl. Whatever it takes to help the caern, we will do." Is there anything else we must know to aid us?"

"Remember the signs," hooted Owl "And let the river guide you."
He spread his wings and made to drop off the branch, but paused to add one last thing: "Help will always be given to those who ask for it."
And with those final words, Owl left them, watched intently by the small spirits that surrounded them.

As Owl flew off, Max turned to Yvonne and Adiyah. Mostly, he looked apologetic. He hadn't been expecting this, and now he had dragged them both into it.
He thought of Owl's words, and let them flit through his mind again and roll over his tongue. "When darkness surrounds you, And breath has failed you, when time stands still and the beginning is the end."
Max always liked words. He liked poems and stories with riddles in them, like the Hobbit. This one seemed terribly morbid.
"Are we supposed to die?" he asked uncertainly.

"I'm sure we're not, don't be silly." Though even Yvonne has puzzled out that answer. "It might just mean a sealed room or something." Yvonne shrugs, not about to become a font of insight. "I don't know at all. But if we've got a days journey we should get going, we can talk about it on the way."

She nodded at what Owl said, filing it away in her head for the task at hand. She kept her eyes on the spot he was even after his disappeared. After a moment, she blinked and looked over at Yvonne and Max, her forehead furrowed and slightly frowning.
"Well it certainly means something signifigant has to happen for us to find this object." She finally said, but it was clear she was thinking closer to the lines of Max's train of throught.
She sighed. "We should get going, the sooner we do the sooner we get back. We do however, have to let Danny know, and I should call home to let them know not to worry, and we'll be back soon."
She looked up to the smaller spirits, swallowing hard. That is, of course if we are all meant to come back.
Might be something to this 'death' notion, though she was hoping on a metaphor. She turned and started moving back towards the library. "Come on, sooner we go, the sooner we understand. No use worrying right at the moment."
Of course she knew that was easier said than done.

Max grinned at Yvonne. At least someone was optimistic. "Well that sounds a little comforting," he said, wondering if there were sealed rooms in the Umbra. He nodded at Adiyah. She had a point. Night was falling, and that was always the best time to travel the Umbra. "Alright, you both call your families," he said. "I will bring Danny up to date." He smiled to himself. He liked this Sept. He had known he would fit in here much better than in Frankfurt. There was a lot less posturing and titles and honorifics, and a lot more freedom and familiarity. He followed Adiyah back to the Library, where he stepped sideways and went to find Danny while the others called their respective families. One post back at the Library and then back here?

"Ooh! That's a good point, I should call daddy. He'll probably be getting the dinner on..." Yvonne is momentarily distracted by the thought and gazes off wistfully, but drags herself back to the matter at hand. "Okay, I'll go call him."
-- A little later -- Yvonne returns looking quite flustered with her latest ordeal and, having forgotten what she was so annoyed about, she stops being annoyed about it. "Alright, let's go!"
