Katrine patrolled the bawn in the Umbra, a job that had fallen to the former members of the old pack and all the unpacked Garou in the Sept. Unable to over hear the loud argument of the others she got closer, to find out what the problem where. Approaching she gave out a loud growl, to let them know she was there rather then sneaking up on them. The grey wolf shifted into homid when she was few yards from the circle. She nodded in respect to Danny and Cloud, the others where strangers to her, yet she took place near Yvonne and Kasiya. Then asked out “What do you consider fair punishment for your crimes.” Then much lower to Yvonne “Why is he in trouble?” Learning from her septmates always where a welcomed opportunity

Yvonne looks aside at Katrine's arrival and hesitates a moment before she answers the unfamiliar face in the mother's tongue. "He's a murderer, torturer and rapist." The other details had all become irrelevant in the past few seconds, since Tristain had come seeking redemption only to run at the first sign that he might suffer for his crimes. She glances at Katrine again, they hadn't really had chance to meet yet, Yvonne can't even remember her name.

They all wanted to take vengeance. Little thought for justice. The futility of it all sends fire through Kasiya's veins and he uses it to shift. The only muscles that would stop this were the one that worked their jaws, and not for biting either. ((Rage to shift to Homid))
When he speaks it's to Cloud Dancer:
"Wait. There is a better way. Please. He is a Cub. He is to us what a child is to the humans. When their children go astray they don't kill or mutilate them. They guide and teach them so they don't stray again.
I can set a guardian to watch over him. One who will never let him murder or rape. Then he can prove himself. As can we."
His last words are immeasurably sad. This isn't something he wants to be a part of. Kasiya takes a slow step toward Tristain, hoping he has the courage to follow through and get in between the Cub and Cloud Dancer.

Tristain looks up as the newcomer arrives, then as the black wolf turns into a human form. Even with her Rage so close to the surface he doesn't shy away from Cloud Dancer or her words. He's damned for giving up on his beliefs. And damned again for trying to hold onto them? Maybe he really is beyond hope.
"I'm not asking for mercy." I just don't want you to follow me down. Better you kill me than that.

Danny put a homid hand on Kasiya's shoulder and said softly. "He is not a child," and then signed: He is not one of your charges. He is the very thing you are protecting them from. He made his choices, and he made the wrong ones.
He shook his head sadly. It is not up to us to prove ourselves to him, or anyone. He doesn't want to face consequences. There is nothing we can do. I have tried.
As much as he was against the idea of harsh punishment, Tristain's reaction was starting to give him doubts. For the first time in a long time, he was wrong about someone.

It's a hard thing, to be told you're entirely wrong by one you respect. The problem for Kasiya is that he doesn't know if he can stay at a caern that allows the kind of punishment the women want. He knows that if it were he, he'd prefer their teeth at his throat to their knives at his balls.
He signs: Even if he is no child, he should not have to endure that. The Rite washed him clean, the Wyrm does not own his soul. Raised by Black Spiral Dancers, how can we expect him to be all we believe he should? I must try. If I do not then I am not the Garou I wish to be.
"No child perhaps..."
He doesn't look at Tristain, he can't get sidetracked if he's to go up against the wishes of all his elders present. He just hopes the Cub can shut the hell up.
"Cloud-Dancer-Ryha. Would you accept my way instead? It would be a Pain spirit. It can watch over him and will be bound to deal him crippling agony if he tries to rape or murder. It will never let him harm any innocent. It is better than cutting him. For his punishment... If I cannot punish him adequately with a Pain spirit, I should not claim the Crescent Moon."

"But we haven't mentioned how it will be done." It came as a bit of a surprise that Micah spoke. He hadn't said a word since the cleansing. As he spoke in the mother's tongue, Tristain would not have understood him. "I don't believe that the Theurge's suggestion is as much a punishment than simply a way to keep track of him. That is not our way. Taking away his choice is not punishment. However, I do believe he has the right idea in a way. The spirits can be persuaded to place a geas on the cub as punishment for his crimes. Some of the greatest warriors have fallen because they broke a geas. The great Cuchulainn himself was only killed because he could not avoid breaking his. If you want to take his manhood, then the spirits can do so. We will ask them to place a ban on him, and should he ever lie with a woman," he paused and then added uncertainly, "or man, again, he will suffer the most painful of consequences." He looked at Danny apologetically. "It is in no way different to what the Black Fury suggests."

Kasiya bows his head in respect and thanks to Micah. In speaking he had opened discussion, and the cubs fate need not be so severe and final.
He didn't share Micah's confidence in the power of Geasa. If his travels had taught him anything it was that nothing lasted forever and that anything that could be made could be unmade. Perhaps when the cub had learned and grown and proven himself, perhaps once he'd found love, he could petition the spirits and quest to earn his release.
"I bow to your judgment Keeper. It is a good Way."
It wasn't as bad as the Fury's solution, nowhere near as final, nowhere near as horrifying. No matter what Danny thought, they did have to prove themselves better than the Black Spiral Dancers. It was the only way to save this Cub.
He looks expectantly at Cloud-Dancer.

Yvonne nods in agreement with Micah's first statement. "Yes, a mere chaperone and a slap on the wrist is not only no punishment at all, and it is disrespectful to ask a spirit of such a trivial service when there is no need for it." Yvonne still talks in the mother's tongue, Tristain has already showed his tendency to flee at the first sign of trouble. "But if a geas is no different, why resort to it? Why waste the time of spirits that have their own purpose to fulfill when we are perfectly able to carry out the punishment ourselves? The judgement as it stands is generous enough, Cloud-Dancer-rhya is right. He should feel pain, shed blood, and know loss - even if only in a small way compared to what he has inflicted on others."

Cloud-Dancer's eyes met Kasiya's. She didn't have to explain herself to a Cliath, but since she arrived in Berlin she had heard one story about Kasiya that gave her enough reason to afford him some respect, despite his near ronin-status. So she didn't tell the Cliath to shut up right away. She almost opened her mouth to speak, but let Yvonne finish first. "I think you could take some wisdom from the Ahroun," she said. "Spirits are not tools to bend to your needs." She looked at Micah. "He has shown he is unwilling to accept any punishment. His self-righteous words prove he is not really repentant. He either doesn't understand the monstrous deeds he has committed, or he chooses to hide from them by pointing fingers at others." She turned to Kasiya. "He is not just a cub who has gone astray, and saying that only spits on our cubs, the ones you rescued from the likes of him. How dare you compare him to them!" A small portion of her anger had melted when Yvonne spoke, now it seemed to be building up again. She looked at Tristain. "We are not the good guys or the bad guys. We are the nation, and these are our laws."

I want to save him too. I stood between him and the Fenrir's claws twice. I brought him this far. But make no mistake. He is as guilty as the ones whose lives you end because their victims ask you to.
Danny was surprised at Kasiya's indignation. He knew why he himself wanted to save Tristain, but it was difficult to understand why Kasiya, whose calling was to kill the likes of Tristain so their victims could rest, would fight so hard for a murderer he had just met. He was glad for it just the same. Too many of the Sept had stood against him for his decision.
You know that the Rite of Cleansing only removes his taint, it does not cleanse his soul, it does not wash away his deeds.
He looked up at the tree. Owl was ever watchful, and he knew a decision needed to be made. Specifics were irrelevant. Tristain needed to make his choice. "Whatever we decide, it will be up to Tristain to accept it. You have pleaded guilty, but you refuse punishment. Is this your decision?"

How dare you compare him to them!
"Because he is what happens when we do not get there in time."
That said, he bares his throat and backs down. He'd get no further with Cloud-Dancer and Yvonne.

Katrine had held back on this to get a better understanding of the Berlin Sept, but from what she heard and she felt great respect for both Danny and Cloud Dancer, whom had acted like mentors in many ways and showed her a great deal of trust, but for this she had to speak her mind, doing so in a way that even the victim could understand. “Taking his… manhood… shows no respect for gaias creation or any common sense at all, the children of tomorrow will carry on our work and this man is not like the metis, his children will matter too.” The word manhood did not fir in her vocabulary, but she had no other word she was conferrable using. “Since we have not yet killed him, which means that he’s got a right to speak, to pick his poison and be his own worst critic. In stead of letting our anger get ahead of ourselves, after all is he not the one who knows his crimes the best?” If he wanted to be anything other then a murder and all the other things they where calling him, he had to change that and no one else

It was Danny who responded. He might be on Kasiya's side, he might be fighting to save Tristain, but Kasiya was wrong about that one. And it was probably a good thing he responded when he did, or Cloud-Dancer may well have ripped Kasiya's throat out for good measure.
"No," he said. "They refused, and they wear the scars to show it. Tristain was not coerced, he was not asked to do anything on pain of death or torture. He would not be guilty if he was. He made his own choices. He is responsible for them, as we are for ours."
He next turned to Katrine. "Your words show more compassion than any of the Fenrir I have heard today," he said with a smile. He was aware that she was not here for the trial, and had not heard Tristain's confession.
"I think that will be all," he said. This conversation was over. A decision had to be made, and it was up to Tristain to make it.

It is a long while before Tristain says anything. He looks now and then between Cloud Dancer, Kasya and Katrine before saying, still in a sad, low voice, "Do what you want to me. It doesn't change what I've done."
