(((I'll let Vasara post a description of what Ragnarok's like on the Umbral side, if he likes...))

Tearing his way through the Gauntlet, Ilya finds himself in the Umbral-counterpart of Ragnarok's carpark.
Scanning the area, he keeps an eye out for any hostile spirits. He knew that something was amiss, and had a feeling that his former Garou companions required his assistance.
Deeming the area relatively secure, he sits cross-legged in the Umbral landscape, closes his eyes, and begins to meditate, quietly mumbling to himself.
If you're out there, Rat, He thinks to himself, I'd really like to have a word with you... if you've got the time to spare, that is...
After several minutes of whispered chanting, his eyes open, his head directed skyward, and he speaks, a little louder now.
"Mighty T'chk'chk, " His low-pitched growl seeming to shake his very surroundings, "I, Ilya, Gurahl Vedren Rishi of the Mountain Guardians, humbly beckon you... "
As his hairs begin to stand on end, he takes a deep breath, then continues.
"One of your children," He growls, "Karin... advised me to seek your wisdom, if ever I was in need of aid. Now is that time."
His succoring of Rat almost complete, he pulls forth an assortment of items from his pockets; coins, some business cards, a scrunched-up scrap of paper, a packet of chewing gum, and a keyring; and lays them out at his feet.
"I have brought gifts for you and your children." He finishes with a smile.

After about an hour of chanting and meditating, Ilya finds that he is no longer alone.
Rat does not look particularly pleased at this interruption of whatever important things he was doing. But his eyes caught the shinies and he started examining them curiously, although he made no attempt to touch them.
Ilya is oddly reminded of Karin. There's the same natural curiosity, obsession with shiny things, and the same passive hostility that makes Ilya think that if he wasn't so huge, he would have already scratched his eyes out.

"Please," Ilya says quietly, such a non-threatening demeanour seemed almost alien for such an imposing figure as Ilya, yet there was an air of kindess to him, "Forgive my rudeness, summoning you so, but I was told your knowledge of this city was unsurpassed."
He appealed to the spirit's ego. While he knew that there were many other spirits in the Umbra that knew the city better than a mere rat-spirit, such as Berlin's City Father, he also knew that those same spirits would expect the greatest of offerings for even the slightest of aid.
"I understand that you are very busy, and have better things to tend-to than the wishes of a lowly being such as myself," He continues, "But my companions, the Gar... the puppies... I sense that they are in danger, and I seek their whereabouts."

Rat watched the Gurahl suspiciously as he spoke. Then he walked over to the offerings, looking at each of them in turn, before very slowly looking back up at Ilya.
"And you seek to help the wolves, hmm?" Rat asked, clearly not approving if this friendship, or just not understanding it. "Do you think they are trustworthy?"
((I'm going to rule yes.))

Ilya flashes a friendly smile at T'chk'chk.
"Your children, the wolves, and myself all share a common interest," He says, "The well-being of Berlin."
He gives a gentle sigh before continuing.
"The Garou do their best to keep this city free from the Pattern-Breaker's influence," He continues, "And they need all the help they can garner in these modern nights."
He gives the spirit a steely look; time was of the essence and Ilya's patience was beginning to thin.
"Which is why I implore you," He says softly, "Take me to the Garou, and I shall leave you in peace."

"A common interest, you say?" the Rat was speaking to Ilya, but its eyes were still on the gifts. No matter what his feelings towards the Garou, he had to admit that the weaver's webs had weakened in the past year. "So they have gotten themselves into trouble again. And Bear and Rat must be the ones to help, again?"
He picked up a shiny button and eyed it closely for a while before continuing. "One howl like an angry dog, two howls like a kicked puppy. Your friends are on the East Side, and they won't come out alive."
And then suddenly Rat's features broke into what could only have been a toothy grin. "Oh the fun is coming soon," he said. "For when the wall breaks, the puppies will fall."
With that last cryptic and gleeful warning, he trotted away.

The East Side...? Ilya ponders, What on Earth are they doing over there?
His brow furrows, and he does his best impersionation of a hair-covered, 7-foot tall, muscle-bound sprinter (with a gippy leg), and heads in the direction of the Wall.
Once on the East-Side, he tears his way through the Gauntlet and listens for anything out of the ordinary, his breath ragged from exertion.

Fortunately, Ilya doesn't need to run all the way to the East Side to hear from the Garou. (For reasons why this is fortunate, see Crabby.)
A few minutes after he leaves Ragnarok, he hears a Garou's howl. Ilya has spent enough time with the Garou to recognise Anna at this point, and to know the howl was in the direction of the Caern.
