Kamut and Kasiya reach the Umbra with fairly little difficulty. A lot of the buildings that existed in the physical world have no umbral representations. The older parts of town do, however, as some of it goes all the way back to the Middle Ages.
Unfortunately for both of them, there is no trail of banes indicating the right direction. This area seems to be rather quiet in the way of spirits actually.

Kamut looks around, then back to Kasiya. "Do we know enough about Jan's captors to make any guesses? If not, I suppose we could just look around." Then an idea strikes him. "Or perhaps you could ask your ghostly... friends?" Whether the query was on the asking, or the friendship, is not really clear. Nor is the innocent smile.

Similarly upon crossing over, Kasiya takes a moment to ensure that they have entered a benign part of the Penumbra.
It's lucky in a way for Kasiya that he has so little experience in reading people from their tone and expression. He'd no doubt be confused at Kamut's cryptic intonation and expression. As always, he takes words at face value. It's just easier that way.
"I was not here when Jan was taken. My guide is elsewhere. The others only come when they want something. I will see if any are close."
He can't escape the feeling that the Gaian spirits have given them all the guidance they're likely to get today. Instead, he opens his senses to the dead, an invitation to be heard and felt and cared about, if only for a few moments. His eyes unfocus as he places his attention on something Kamut cannot.

There was a long silence.
A very long one.
It doesn't seem like any nearby ghosts are going to come because someone wants them.

Kamut takes to his natural form while he waits, the Crinos was not less ugly than his other forms. Mottled fur, misshapen jaw and all. He continues waiting, only watching Kasiya with half an eye so he could observe their surroundings better. Any clue would be somewhere to start and he didn't want to miss one.

Shaking his head sadly as he feels none of the eerie presence of the restless dead, Kasiya breaks the silence:
"There are none nearby. I could call out but I can't choose what answers."
His tone seems to imply that that's a Bad Thing. It was strange for him to be left alone by them, but right now he could have done with the company.
"Perhaps best we do as you said: Use our own eyes and ears. We may not be able to scent the Taint but we can see it's effects."
He's not entirely sure he isn't seeing the effect of something already. There should be more spirits about, if only the Weaver's Brood. Halfway through his words his tone changes, firming to resolve. To Kamut it only serves as confirmation that he hasn't planned his words, instead preferring to speak as he thinks.

"And your nose." Kamut looks away thoughtfully, he doesn't like to dwell on it but it could do a lot of harm not to mention it. "Mine does not function, my cleft palette is only the least part of my... curse." The moment's introspection passes as quickly as it came. "Shall we pick a building then, travel to it's depths and see if we can peek for signs of trouble? You will surely be more able at this."

He nods, sympathetic for once. To a Wolf, a world without scent was empty and sterile.
"We shall. And I will make the best use of my nose."
Gladly his slips into Lupus form and his perceptions change, scents and sounds becoming sharper while his sight wakes a back seat.
"Need your eyes as they are though."
He 'points' with his bristly nose to the structure the others had been heading to.
"That one first?"
He's kinda glad that talking wouldn't feature heavily from this point. He was also willing to bet that between them they had the best observation skills in their little group.

"Yes, and safety with it." Comes the growled response. Kamut follows Kasiya's lead and though he's of quite average stature he's still forced to duck under the ceiling and squeeze through doorways. Despite this, he begins to edge out of perception. "You might lose sight of me, but I will be here."

As Kamut fades from his senses, Kasiya whuffs acceptance, resisting the urge to sniff after him. If he concentrated too much on catching his travelling companion out he might miss something important or dangerous, possibly both.
Though he lacks the Ragabash tricks of concealment, he is no hulking brute himself, and uses his own gifts and inherent sneakiness, treading without sound, making himself small and avoiding areas of high visibility.
He begins to search through the ground level of the Weaver's construct, looking for those wh might do him harm yet seeking the symbols that are the Crescent Moon's stock and trade.

As they get closer, they realise the building they had picked, like so many others in this area, is still fairly new, and therefore has little representation in the Umbra at all. However, a large number of pattern spiders are spinning their way across the area where the building is supposed to be standing. In fact, there's so many of them that Kamut and Kasiya soon have to stop advancing, unless they want to get caught in their webs. However, apart from the disproportionate number of spiders, there's not much else to indicate this place is in any way special.

Thwarted in his search, he had nevertheless been provided an answer of sorts. He has to speak to thin air but doesn't doubt that Kamut was good to his word and keeping close.
"None of the Wyrm here. It would fight the Weaver if it were."
He'd dearly like to peek and see what the others were doing but by so many pattern spiders it would be foolish to the point of suicide.
Padding away from the spiders at their work he moves to make a circuit of the building, one last chance to gather his thoughts before doing something fun.
We two could slip in and take a quiet look around, then slip away through the velvet shadow. Between us we have the best chance to scout.

Being sadly without any gifts of telepathy, Kamut remains in ignorance of any of Kasiya's plans. He just continues loping on after him, eyes and ears open to the surroundings and any possible approach of the spiders. As their circuit draws to a finish he whispers from behind Kasiya. "It doesn't seem like this is going to work with the encroachment of the Weaver. Is there a reason you don't simply perform the Rite again? As I understand it, it becomes more reliable with proximity and can be used to triangulate a point with a discerning eye." Briefly Kamut wonders if he's being too technical, but leaves a simplistic explanation out for now.

Indeed, words like proximity and Triangulate go right over Kasiya's head, nevertheless:
Oh, he means to find him, like tracking by sign.
He gets the feeling he'll need human form again in a mament, so he pre-empts need, carefuly making the change before speaking, unfortunately to thin air.
"I can do that. The reason I have not is that the spirits have offered their aid and brought us here. They may wish to do no more, leaving us to track our kin on our own merits. However the worst that they will do is refuse."
His accedence is accompanied by his retrieval of the stone and thread. He begins to make up the cats cradle.

Kamut lets clarity overtake the blur that had previously kept him concealed, it was a little rude to make conversation from the shadows. "That is true, asking for guidance can at worst only be given a refusal." He looks around briefly as Kasiya starts preparing before looking back at him. "Perhaps we should retrieve the others? Not only to accompany the ritual, but performing it requires stopping for some time. We might draw some attention."
