"We have not been waiting long," Danny assured both Max and Adiyah as they voiced their worries about being late. He stood up and looked at the four of them. "If you are ready, then we will start," he said. "Treads-the-Darkest-Path and I shall aid you in your search. I hope it will be a successful one. Follow the signs, they will lead you to your Totem. Once you have found him, the rest is up to you. We can only take you so far."
He waited for them to stand ready, and then gave Kasiya a short nod. He was the one chewing the tobacco. "The mixture will obscure your sight, but it will open your minds. It is an offering to your Spirit. Don't cringe away from it." Although it will burn...

Yvonne doesn't greet Maria with much more than a faint smile, there was too much serious business weighing upon them for even her to be distracted by frivolity. She looks around at her two companions as they arrive and offers them a reassuring smile, she's confident in them and herself and that they need little more than that confidence in their abilities. "I think we're ready."

Having had long enough to build up a god potent brew of nicotine-laden spittle, Kasiya tucks the remains of the fibrous plant under his tongue and steps up to Adiyah. As the packs Theurge she would be the first step in guidance for tham, so it was only right that she go first. Besides, The Crescent moons understood the necessity of making sacrifices to the spirit world, and she could act as an example to the others.
Placing one hand on her shoulder and the palm of the other gently on her cheek, he draws her face close and gives her a moment before moving his hand around to the back of her head and squirting a measured jet of fluid across both her eyes.
It's only in my mouth, and that's bad enough. No use missing and having to try again.
That done he repeats the procedure with Max, relying on him to lean down to the little Theurge's level. Then Yvonne, lastly Maria. The order is a measure of his esteem for the pack members, but he ensures that each one gets the same treatment. No more and no less than the others. He touches each one as gently as possible, allowing them to pull back if they wanted (as long as he wasn't mid-spit!), and waiting patiently for them to come back. He's in no rush, and nowhere near as hardcore as the Fenrir could be with rites like these.
Once finished, he steps back and takes his place a little beside Danny and to one side. Watching.

Maria looks around as Yvonne speaks. So, this is her pack, she is a member of a pack. As she think about the gravity of such position, she notices Kasiya and his preparations. Calmly the metis stands straight as her turn comes.
The tobacco smells even worse and stings her eyes. And quietly somewhere in the back of her head, Maria swears there is a little voice whining about spoiling her finest clothes, but the she quickly silences such a voice.

Max bent his knees so the Theurge could coat his eyes with the mixture, and tried hard not to flinch when the tobacco rubbed into his eyes. He nodded a quick thanks to Kasiya as he stepped towards Yvonne. It's not as bad as I remember it, he thought to himself. Everything seemed so much more of a big deal as a cub. He looked around at his soon-to-be packmates and smiled at them through squinting eyes.

Adiyah tensed when the mixture hit her eyes, but she steadied herself and managed not to pull away as Kasiya held her face in place. It was all a part of the ritual, and it was necessary. She was honored to go first and managed a solem slight bow of her head to him before he moved to Max.
As he moved to the others, the Fian watched their reactions as best she could with blurry eyes. It gave her a distraction from wanting to rub at them anyhow. When they were done, she turned to Danny.

Yvonne screws up her nose at the foul-smelling stuff, but she's no spoiled princess that gets upset over the slightest breach of cleanliness - evidenced by the sheen of sweat still clinging to her. If getting sprayed with the blood of flailing Black Spiral Dancers as she tears their throats out doesn't bother her, neither does a bit of spit. She flinches and blinks away tears at the sensation, but endures it as well as she can and maintains a respectful silence.

Although the tobacco stung their eyes, all of them managed not to react too strongly to the sensation. They blinked at each other through streaming eyes. As Kasiya took a step back, Danny stepped forward to address them.
"Trust your instincts," he advised them. "We will follow," he added quietly to Kasiya. "And observe."
Although the group knew they were searching for their Totem, they had very little idea of what signs they were supposed to be looking for. Adiyah, Yvonne, and Max found themselves just as lost as they had been in their search for the unknown cave. Except this time, they didn't know where to begin.

Maria was new to the whole rite, so she listened carefully what Danny had to say. She slowly began walking forward, trying to keep her balance. She didn't see much before her, and that made searching for something diffucult.
" I have a gift which allows me to see far, shall I use it?" Maria asked her packmates, turning to their general direction.

Nodding, Kasiya crouches and gobs the remaining wad of tobacco out onto his palm and places it on the ground, his posture mimicing a sitting wolf for a moment before... He is a Wolf.
Kasiya sits and watches with keen interest. Unable to see himself ever undergoing the Rite himself, he's most interested in what will pass. The barest of shivers traces through him as his refined palate registers the taste once more, but this time in the gastronomical equivalent of Dolby Surround Sound, but it's fading fast and he doesn't make a fuss, sitting with remarkable stillness.

"Thank you both, for your guidance," Max said, tilting his respectfully to the two Silent Striders. He turned to Maria as she asked her question. "I think that would be a good idea," he said. "And we should shift to wolf too."
He turned to Adiyah. She had a way of seeing things when they couldn't. "Do you know what signs to look for?" he asked. "Maybe we need to call our Spirit, like we did Owl?"

Maria nodded at Max. She stood still and her form began to warp.. until it was a pale golden wolf with a long tail and left leg full of toes. Maria shakes her fur quickly and grabs her cane from the ground, taking it to Danny's feet and dropping it there. " Please guard it, Walks-with-Death-rhya" she says shortly and lopes next to her pack. She lifts her tail so that it has a arc and then squints her eyes. (ooc: activate Eye of the Falcon)

Yvonne thinks on the matter, they don't know what they're looking for, they don't know where to look, they don't even know if there's anything to look for. But if little things like having no idea what she's doing got in Yvonne's way she'd never do anything. For now, at least, Yvonne stays in her natural form and looks around. Wolf eyes aren't up to much, anyway. "If we see no way to go we might have to call for guidance, but we should look for ourselves first." She says, in answer to Max.

Adiyah watched Maria shift to wolf, since she had not seen what the young woman looked like without her human form. She nodded to Danny and Kasiyah. "Thank you, we will find our way."
Trust your instincts.
It might be easier said than done. She wasn't sure where her instincts would lead her. She listened to her pack, and nodded. "I agree with Yvonne, let us try to follow more than our eyes though. They do not serve us as well here without our hearts, minds, ears and noses. They will lead us together to what we seek."
While waiting for Maria to reveal her findings if she had any, Adiyah smiled at Max and Adiyah, trying hard not to fidget and touch her eyes. "Oh spirits, wherever you may be, we seek to find which among you will chose us, accept us, be our totem avatar, this pack only asks that if you find us worthy that you are able to be discovered."
It was hard to adress a totem spirit if you had yet to know which you were seeking out anyway. She was homid born, so for the moment, she decided to stay in that form. She did her best to 'tune in' to the area around her, using all her senses to sense any presence or evidence of a spirit of interest. If needed, she could try to summon one, but if they could find one without the extensive rite, that would be far easier.

Maria's gift allows her to see deep into the forest. But although she has a clear view of the many friendly spirits in the caern's bawn, she has no idea what to look for.
Adiyah gives her speech, and a silence falls over the group as they wait for something. And they are not disappointed. Maria and Adiyah are sure they can hear a deep gravelly roar coming from the North. Max almost thinks he can hear it too, although he can't tell where it's coming from. Yvonne, for her part, can't hear it at all.
