Engrossed as they are in the cleansing, not even Danny notices the black wolf as it creeps up and watches the ritual. Kasiya senses the Wyrm's taint on Tristain, although it not too surprising considering what he has been hearing. As the rite is concluded, he attempts to sense it again, but it is gone.
Tristain: Sorry, you may edit your post. I should've posted this last night.

"That won't be up to me to decide," Danny said. "I wouldn't even pretend to have the wisdom."
This was not over. He would have to explain this to the rest of the Sept, and when they heard Tristain's crimes, they would, if he was lucky, react as Yvonne had. And if he wasn't, as Vasara had. But no one would question Owl's wisdom.
"We will find Owl," Danny turned to Tristain to explain. "He is the patron spirit of this Caern, of my tribe, and once, of my pack. And although we can't really be called a pack anymore, he has not forsaken me. Owl is wise, and his eyes see beyond what ours do. He knows where we go from here."

Somewhat pleased that he'd managed to escape notice and watch from the sidelines, Kasiya rises and steps out of the low cover. Even though it hadn't been he that Danny had turned to for confirmation, he gives it in the absence of any input from Yvonne.
"The Rite is successful. The Wyrm's touch is gone."
He feels sympathy for Tristain. Partly because he knows what it's like to be an outcast. Partly because he really doesn't like Yvonne. He doesn't approach Tristain yet, waiting to see how he reacts to the knowlege that the Wyrm has no hold over him. And seeing the knife. And smelling the blood.

Yvonne glances back as Kasiya goes out of his way to state the obvious, and shrugs. She looks back at Danny. "He will be able to commit many of his crimes again, if he turns. The only way to stop that is death, and as you've decided that will not be his punishment. Some of his crimes can be guaranteed never to occur again without resorting to that, it can even be done mercifully."

Tristain can't help but look at Yvonne in shock when he realises what he's suggesting. He tehn looks to Danny for his reaction, but still doesn't speak.

Danny turned his head when the black wolf emerged from hiding, and acknowledged his arrival with a nod. He listened to Yvonne and looked thoughtful for a while.
"It is no more cruel than the crimes he has committed," he agreed. "And yet I have reservations about mutilating even my enemies. I give them the courtesy of a swift death when possible, even though they won't give the same to me. Even though they haven't."
He didn't look at Tristain, but at Micah and then Kasiya. He didn't know if Kasiya had been watching long enough to hear Tristain recite his crimes. "Owl will decide. If it must be done, then it will be done."
He stomped out the fire, and started to lead the group towards the Caern.

Rites could fail, and Kasiya knew better than any present not to risk the sanctity of the Caern, having compromised it once before. Tristain wasn't the only repentant sinner present. His crimes were simply greater. The Theurge can stand Yvonne's scorn.
The stereotypical Black Fury savagery toward males raises Kasiya's hackles, but since Danny responds quicker, he remains silent, settling for padding softly to his senior's side. He'd back Danny to the hilt. Owl was wise, his judgment often harsh, but always necessary, which was not to say fair.
I'd drop the boy in Erebus before I let you at him with a knife.
