"This is a waste of our time!" The other detective snapped, and Feldmann raised a hand and gave him a warning look. "He probably thinks you're crazy. I would..." Anton gave a wan smile. "...if I didn't know better. So who murdered them?" "Let Mr. Richter speak." If there had been any doubt of the chain of command, it was dispelled by the quick compliance of the younger man as he begrudglingly settled down. After a pause, Feldmann looked back at Kasiya. "So, would you kindly tell us where you found the bones originally?"

"She's like me."
In more ways than I'm happy with. Could I walk that path?
Answering Feldmann again:
"It is East of the wall."
He sincerely hopes thet the answer will put them off. Not many could cross the wall these days. Because if they try to go there they'll die. He doesn't want to prove his truthfullness that way.

Even Detective Feldmann couldn't conceal his skepticism at that statement, the other detective seemed to have given up on taking Kasiya's statements seriously. "That is a very unlikely explanation, Mr. Richter. Would you care to explain how you managed to bring human remains past the checkpoints?" "Hm?" Anton looked from Kasiya to Feldmann quizzically. "Oh, yes, the wall. I heard about that."

Nodding to Anton: "It should not be."
"But do you seach every car, turn out every bag? You were looking for me today. Otherwise I would have gone right through."
And do you not make mistakes? Are you perfect? I'm not.

"You've obviously never passed the border from East to West Germany, Mr. Richter, or you would know that they do indeed search every car. That many human bones would have been discovered." Detective Feldmann spoke with certainty, and his companion showed no sign of disagreeing. Kasiya's blatant attempt to avoid the truth was clearly not appreciated. "Oops." "You did not bring them through the checkpoints. How did you bring them from East Berlin?"

Oh well...
The point had come when they asked a question he couldn't answer without putting the humans in danger and breaching the Veil. "I can't tell you. Sorry."
He doesn't say it to be rebellious, the detectives would recognise it as a statement of fact.

"They were in East Berlin, but you will not say how you brought them here." Detective Feldmann paused to consider that for a moment. "Very well. Where exactly were they?" "He doesn't seem to care much about your talking to ghosts thing, does he?"

"I can't tell you."
Kasiya shrugs apologetically.
"You don't deserve to die yet."
Suprised, he looks up at Anton, frowning as he considers. He didn't, did he.
"Do you believe that I speak to the dead?"
Have you heard this before? Do you know more about it than you let on?

"I see." Feldmann's gaze flickered to his companion and back as Kasiya continued. "I am not sure what to believe yet, Mr. Richter. How about this individual - a woman - that you say is the murderer. Tell us about her."

Yet more that he couldn't go into.
"She is beyond your justice."
I'm protecting you. The one who holds me prisoner, and I am protecting you.
"If you wished for my help on other crimes I would give it. Too many murders go unpunished. But this is one you cannot solve."

Detective Feldmann nodded. "Then that is all I have to ask you for now. Interview suspended at..." He checked his wristwatch. "Twelve thirteen. Mr. Richter, we will be back shortly." The other detective gave Feldmann a look that suggested he wasn't happy with this, but he stood and followed Detective Feldmann out. The door locked behind them. Anton stood from his perch on the table. "Well that was a barrel of laughs. Think they believed a word?"

Standing also, Kasiya takes the opportunity to stretch his legs, making a circuit of the room. He peers into the mirror, contemplating how easy it would be to step sideways. He was really only held captive by the Litany. It's not something he even countenances though. Things would need to be considerably more dire for that.
"No. To believe, they have to want to. But what could I do? I'm a poor liar, and if I said nothing I'd have no chance to say my piece. Anton, what do you think happens next?"

"Well, I've seen quite a few interrogations and a few genuinely crazy people amongst them. A doctor will come who will judge if you're lying or crazy. If they think you're crazy you'll be institutionalised, if not you'll be charged with your crimes. You're a bit screwed either way, frankly." Anton looked thoughtful as he stood there in the corner, watching Kasiya pace the room. "So what did you do to the children? I mean, you can't seriously expect me to believe in this mystery woman, you've got no reason to hide the murderer unless it is you."

Problem is I'm not crazy. Just Different. And I can't tell them the difference.
"I'm not hiding her. I'm protecting the police from her. My guide, his name's Fred. Friedrich. He's like you. He was with me at the gate, but I don't know where he is now. If you could find him he could tell you. He could tell you everything."
Kasiya just can't risk saying anything that could be overheard here. They could be listening at the door.
"But I have never harmed any child. Ever."

Anton's look was skeptical at best. "Come on, I've heard fifty years of people trying to get out of crimes, you'll have to do better than that. There's not much out there that can stand up to the cops." He shrugged, long haven given up on the idea of finding his peace. "I can't leave this place anyway. I guess because I was killed in the cells."
"Look, you've really got nothing to worry about, I'm hardly going to condemn you for it." Another shrug, Anton seemed despondant about a lot of things. "Accidents happen, eh?"
