Eager to avoid discussing the slaughter caused by the Spirals, Yvonne nods emphatically. "Oh, yes! I'm going to be a veterinary nurse, although it gets a bit difficult... the animals don't always like me. I don't know if I'll be able to continue with everything else though, it would be easier to just drop out." Momentarily, just momentarily, she frowns. "But I want to do it. What do you think? I imagine most of us don't really get to stay in with the normal world." She sips her tea, giving him a moment to get a word in.

"For some of us, there isn't really much choice,"Danny said. "There are those who have tried. But somehow we always manage to get sucked into this world, and our connection with the normal one fades... But Edward, he's a lawyer and Garou. Some people make it work."
The phone started to ring. It rang a few times before Danny remembered that he was supposed to answer it. It hung from a wall in the kitchen, right next to the sink, so Danny didn't have to leave the room to answer it.
"Hello," he said. "Hey Danny, it's Edward. Don't worry we're on my secure line. I have good news, we found Simeon. He's alright." "That is good news," Danny agreed. "What about Anna?" "Vasara is following up on an unexpected lead. That's the not so good news, it's on the other side of the wall." "WHAT?" Danny's reaction was exactly what Edward had expected. "It's our only chance to get Anna back, and the veil breacher. Listen I have to go clean up Simeon's mess, the police are here. I will let you know when I hear from the rest."
Danny stood stupefied for a while before hanging up. "It would really help if I knew what was going on," he said to himself. He sat himself back down on the table, and decided he might as explain. "Coincidentally, that was Edward. Two members of Sept went missing a few days ago, Simeon, a Silent Strider, and Anna, a cub. She's about your age I think. The pack has been out looking for them and I'm not sure whether or not that was good or bad news."

Yvonne smiles. "Well I'll do my best." She stands and watches the floor, sipping her tea occasionally, as Danny talks on the phone. She flinches slightly at his exclamation but waits for him to finish on the phone before saying anything. "What do you mean? If they've made any progress it's good news, right? Can I help?"

"You're right, I do hope they find their packmate, but to do so at the expense of their own lives would help no one," Danny explained. "They have gone East, although they know of the dangers that await them there. This past year has taught me to trust the young Alpha's judgment, but at the same time, not to underestimate our enemies."
He looked worried. He stood up again and started pacing. He knew Vasara would not leave a packmate behind though, especially not one he had just agreed to adopt into Fenrir's tribe. For now there was nothing they could do but wait.
"Would you like to take a look around the Caern?" he asked, trying to change his tone. "There is not point worrying when there is nothing we can do."

She puts down he tea as she answers the question, but even as she does she's distracted by what could be going on elsewhere. "We could, and I could meet some of those others you mentioned if they're around?" Yvonne chews on a fingernail nervously before continuing. "But shouldn't we go out and join them, if it's as bad as you say they might need us."

Danny shook his head sadly. "I am the Warder of this Caern, and it's only Guardian," he said. "The last time I left to find two of our kin, this happened."
He indicated the window, which was boarded up with wooden planks because the glass was broken. Yvonne also notices that one of the chairs is broken, and there are three bullets lodged in the kitchen counter.
"This is the kind of opportunity they would jump at to make an attack," he said, although he didn't explain who they were. That was because he wasn't sure of that himself. "Edward should be back once he's sorted things out with the authorities. Apparently there was a bit of a mess that needed taking care of."
Danny stopped to imagine what kind of mess it would be, and had a vision of a lot of dead bodies and some collapsed buildings. He shook the image out of his head.

Yvonne sighs. "No, you're right, and I couldn't find my way there alone." She sips her tea contemplatively, wondering if she is going to have to make decisions like this often, or whether she should of dressed warmer. "So we can go on a tour then? And meet with Edward later?"

"I will give you a look around," he said, leading her out of the kitchen. "We can start on this side of the gauntlet. It's not much compared to Dresden, I know, but we are very proud of it..."
Yvonne found herself in the Library's main area once again. Johann and his son had left sometime while they were making tea. "The Glasswalkers founded this Caern shortly after the first great war," he explained. "I am not sure why they made it into a library. Their founder must have had a great love for stories."
They walked among the shelves of books until they got to another area on the other side of the hall. Here the shelves were arranged in a circular manner around a large wooden table. The table itself was centred next to a large fireplace.
"And this is the Caern's heart," Danny said. "The moots are mostly held in here."

"Oh but with the troubles here you've probably had a lot of damage to repair? I'm sure it's had a lot of care put into it over the years." She looks at the shelves around her, curious to have a closer look but keeping up with the tour nonetheless. "Who was the founder then? When did the city fall?" she asks as they approach the heart, but when they reach it she falls quite and looks around her in thought.

"Yes, we had to renovate the place after we reopened it," he said with a nod. "Eva, she's Glasswalker kin to the founders, helped a lot with the details. He owe her quite a lot."
The books back here look much older than the ones near the exit, which looked as if they had been acquired more recently.
"The founder was a Glasswalker Galliard named Sebastian Heller, from what I've read about the Caern's history," he said. "Not all of it is documented, but I know that the city fell to the Wyrm after the second world war. That was when the Caern was abandoned."

"Well I suppose I wouldn't expect all the records to survive such an upheaval." Yvonne walks around the table, looking at the shelves to see if anything interesting catches her eye. "So when did you first come here and start all this work?"

"Over a year ago, now," he said, thinking back on it. "I first came here looking for a cub of my tribe. It was dangerous territory, and I had to get to the cub before they did. I have since sent her somewhere safer. I didn't plan on staying, but then I was led to the Caern, and we found that there was hope for the city yet. It was my luck to be joined by a number of brave warriors, without them we would never have returned the city to Gaia. It has not been without losses though."
He nodded towards the fireplace. The wall above it seemed to have been turned into some sort of shrine for the fallen, with very old faded black-and-white photographs and portraits. Two of the pictures were new, however. One was a blond girl of about Yvonne's age, and the other was a man who looked slightly older and who was grinning goofily at the camera.

She looks up at the pictures and, after a few seconds, gets what Danny is talking about and appears saddened. She doesn't press the matter. "What tribe are you from then?" However as she speaks she can't take her eyes away from the picture of someone only her own age.

"I'm a Silent Strider," he said. "Like you I never knew the Garou side of my family, but I went out looking for him for a while. I found him eventiually, at a Caern in the South, near Lake Constance."
He paused for a while, and noticed her staring at the picture. "That's Abby," he said. "She fell in battle about a year ago when the Black Spiral Dancers took offense to us taking one of their cubs. Well, we tend to call it rescuing, but they didn't appreciate it."

"You are?" she sais in suprise in his pause, remembering the little she'd been told and doing her best not to repeat the exact choice of words "Everyone sais your tribe tend to wander their own way." "She can't... couldn't of been any older than me."
