"That is true... more or less," Danny said. "But sometimes the call of duty overpowers the call of the open road. And that's when we are forced to stay, and fight. We have done our share for this city."
He nodded his head sadly. After all, it had been in an attempt to rescue him that Abby had taken that fatal blow. He wasn't exactly sure how old Abby had been, actually, just that she had gone to school with Kaleb, who seemed to be around nineteen or something. It was hard to tell.
"Shall we take the Umbral tour next?" he asked, changing the subject with a faint smile.

Yvonne nods excitedly, previous worries forgotten, the Umbra wasn't a place she visited very often. "That would be cool! Are there any other guardians here?"

"I am the only one at the moment, but there's spirits who watch over us, and alert us of danger."
Danny pointed to a spot on the wall behind Yvonne where a large mirror hung conventiently between two large bookshelves.
"Kaleb put that up last week," he said. "He was getting tired of going to the bathroom everytime he wanted to step sideways. Shall we?"

Yvonne nods, a little relieved that she wasn't holding up the only guardian of the caern excessively. "It does make things easier." She approaches the mirror hesitantly, still unfamiliar with tackling the gauntlet, and reaches out a hand to touch it. "I can never get this right..." And she's gone.

Danny stepped back into the library and waited for the others to show up.

Yvonne finds her way through the gauntlet some time after the other two, so they're waiting for her when she eventually does return to the physical world. "So have you got showers around her in this... library?" Obviously, she realises how silly it sounds only as she reaches the end of the sentence, but she doesn't let that bother her.

Danny, who had never found it strange that there were showers built in the Caern, nodded. "Upstairs, there's a shower and a bedroom," he said casually. After all, the place was a lot more than a library. He indicated a staircase that led upstairs. "I don't know what we can do for clothes though," he said, looking thoughtful.
Sparrow looked rather grimly at her blood-soaked clothes and then up at Danny and Yvonne. "This is the second time one of yours has saved my life," she said. "Berlin is a dangerous city. We did not know it was held by Gaians when we arrived or we would have announced ourselves." She said the last part apologetically.

Yvonne nods and heads upstairs to shower, then she does her best to rub out most of the stains, or at least reduce them enough so they aren't suspiscous, not to mention getting any lumps out of them and her hair. Eventually, she returns with relatively clean although damp clothes while towelling down her hair. "Does that conclude the tour?"

"I'm afraid so," Danny said, sitting down on a chair. He looked at Sparrow. She was hurt, and he would have offered to help, but he wasn't really a skilled healer. "You have met the others?" he asked Sparrow.
Sparrow didn't show any interest in the shower yet. She seemed to have more urgent things on her mind right now. "Yes. We arrived in Berlin a week ago, tracking a cub of ours who disappeared shortly after his first change. We were attacked by Wyrm-howlers, and lost two of our packmates before the local pack came to our aid. Skull-Crusher, our Alpha, said to return and repay our debt. But then we were lured to the bane's lair. Skull-Crusher thought he saw one of our fallen brothers..." She shook her head and looked down at her hands. "I told him it couldn't be true... that he was dead. But it was his brother... and then you saved us, again. I will repay my debt to you. Then I will find our cub, and return to the Sept."

When she's dried her hair enough to stop it dripping, Yvonne sits cross-legged by the fire with her back to it, allowing it to finish drying her hair and dry her clothes. Yvonne listens to Sparrow's tale in polite interest, only speaking up when she has finished. "Don't feel any obligation, I'm sure you would of done the same for us. If there is anything I can do to help find your lost cub, I will help."

Danny looked at Yvonne with a thoughtful expression. "I think we might already have found him," he said with a frown. "He evaded his captives and got caught on tape. The pack has found him held by Spirals on the East Side. They are organising a rescue as we speak." He glanced at Sparrow. "I do think we're talking about the same cub," he said to her.
Sparrow stood up. "Then I must go with them," she said. "This was our assignment. We were to find the cub, punish him for his crimes, and destroy him if he is beyond redemption." She turned to Yvonne. "It is more than obligation. It is a life debt, and I will not forget it."

Yvonne hesitates, realising now that she offered to help find someone only to have them destroyed. But she bites back her immediate response. Saving lives isn't the only duty she will face. She nods, accepting the debt without another word. Nothing else could be said. "What crime is the cub guilty of?"

"He has flaunted the veil and committed at least seven murders," Sparrow said. "He ran away from his tribe, and his family and got himself tangled up here. My pack died trying to find him." She turned around to Danny. "Where is the pack now?"
"They are somewhere on the East Side," Danny said. "You are in no shape to go there alone, and I cannot leave the Caern." He looked at Yvonne, and before she could say anything, he said: "No. I do not doubt your abilities, not after this... but you don't know the city. I can't let you two go with that thing lurking out there, guarding the wall."

"Then I suppose... his crimes must be answered for." she can't say it without hesitating, but sentencing others to die will never be easy. To hide her discomfort, she changes the subject and looks at Danny. "Then what do we do?" She tries to say when, but it slips out anyway, events were grating on her nerves. "Wait to see if they return?""
