A busy street near the center of West Berlin. Nearby is the deplorable eatery which was once O'Tolley's. It has since been shut down, although the sign still hangs lifelessly above the shop.

Saxon brought the truck to a halt, the heavy diesel rumbling away as he sat looking out of the windscreen. Then he glanced back at the others crammed in the cab.
"Ok everyone out." He twisted the key and then the diesel cut out as he pulled the key free. Dropping to the ground he waited for the others to get out before locking the truck. Then he looked carefully around before walking over to join Vasara.

Nadya had been poking through the bag on the voyage, giving anyone interested a look inside at the pair of rifles and assorted clips for them. She gets out moments after Saxon, duffel bag in one hand, and looks around suspisciously at the buildings in the area as she also heads over to Vasara. "So how quiet do you want to do this?"

Kamut is quiet through the voyage, he hadn't had much time to get to know the city and took the opportunity to work on mapping the streets out in his head. He disembarks at Saxon's command and follows along, examining the (presumably, at mid-day) numerous people moving around the area.

Disembarking with as much alacrity as he can manage, Kasiya wobbles on his feet a little before steadying himself against the Wagon. The Weavers machines really don't agree with him and travelsickness for a Silent Strider is ironic to the point of embarrassing deed names.
He takes the opportunity of leaning against the Rig to shelter from prying eyes as he checks his Lodestone for direction.
At least it was a short journey. I wonder what makes cars smell like cars...
He wrinkles his nose.

Post by Tony Vasara on Jun 5, 2008 9:47:55 GMT 1
Vasara parked his Harley right next to Saxons truck. The time was wrong, as it was still day, there were way too many people around doing their own stuff and worrying about their own little lives.
"Let's check the surroundings, possible exits and entries. We can't really just go all big and furry and run inside guns blazing and claws rending..." Vasara paused for a thought "...even if they just might to deserve it." Vasara answered to Nadezhda as he walked closer to others so they could hear him talking too.
"We have Veil to protect too, and it seems that our enemy has either by coincidence or purpose chosen this place to hinder us." Vasara tried to look at the lodestone to make sure they were on the right place. "So, places to enter and exit first. Then we think what we'll do, maybe wait for night, create distraction or two, get in, find Stolz and get out. But that's to figure out after we have enough information to base our plan with."
Vasara had weird feeling, and images of cops and firefighters in his mind. Public servants must love the Pack, they had arsoned so many places already... Maybe they COULD get this done without it, but then again it was an old fenrir custom to use fire to flush enemies out. Too bad there was a kin inside, and Vasara wondered did he really consider burning this den down at the cost of fenrir-kin... He shook his head as he realized that he did and still considered it as a good option. Life of kin was appreciated, but there was no... feeling, no moral lecture in his head saying that he should endanger the lives of this many Garou to save just one kin.
He would try to do the good thing, but if things got too ugly, he would burn this place to the ground without a second thought. He looked at the surrounding buildings and kept wondering had he really fought monsters long enough to become one? Had he really become as cold and ruthless as his Elders?
Vasara felt cold, even if his thick skin could keep him warm even during winters if needed.
"Let's have a walk around the building. I want to know everything worth knowing about the battleground before anyone rushes in."

Oblivious to Vasara's inner conflict, Nadya nods in agreement to his plans and follows on. "Even if we don't make a lot of noise they'll be using guns right? It's safest to assume the authorities will be getting notified somehow, so someone should check out police response times. If we manage to find Jan we wont be able to step sideways past the cops either. We need to be quick, it'll be a bloody mess all over the media if we have to kill a bunch of cops too."
(I think we'd all like to see an ST post describing the area, a map of the local streets and buildings would be nice too even if it's a rough one)

There's nothing really distinctive about this street. It's a highly commercial area in the centre of Berlin, so naturally it's quite busy. There are a lot of office buildings and shops, and apart from the shut-down restaurant, none really stand out. However, they are sure the rite pointed them here, so they must be close.
The stone in Kasiya's hand has stopped pointing. The Rite seems to have run its course, and the spirits no longer guide it. He will either have to perform the rite again, or find some other way to pinpoint Jan's location in more detail.

A busy street is the last place Kasiya would attempt a Rite. They were on their own. Unwinding the thread from around his fingers, Kasiya winds it around the stone. He's aware of terms like 'Authorities', police response times' and 'media' but they don't mean a lot to him, so he lets them pass through one ear and out the other.
Falling in beside Vasara as he pockets the stone, he confirms the obvious and makes a simple statement of support :
"The Rite is done, this is as far as the spirits will guide us. For the rest we have our sharp senses."
He knows the limits of the Rite as well. The questing stone gets confused up close to the quarry and in buildings. Better that they find another way. He could always try again later if it was desperate. Of course, there are other ways, better and quieter. He murmurs under his breath, hoping for the presence of his friend: "Fred?"

"From what we know of his captors, this could be a large and powerful company that have taken him yes? This does little to narrow down the sort of building they could use. I imagine they could inhabit a large modern building, or use some less obvious structure as a front." Realising he was saying nothing really helpful, Kamut falls silent and considers his next words a little more carefully. "Are any of us capable of sensing the tainted? It might give us somewhere to start. If not we might resort to waiting and watching, there could be suspiscious activity to offer clues." Kasiya receives a sideways glance, though Kamut doesn't ask any questions. Not when he can just listen and wait.

A short way from the restaurant is a large shopping centre, attracting crowds of morning shoppers. The rest of the buildings in the area seem to attract a lot less attention. There are a couple of prominent law firms, a block of offices including a variety of doctors' private clinics from dermatologists to dentists, and finally a large pharmaceutical company that explores experimental drugs from what they can tell.
Fred made no answer to Kasiya. He was not close by.
Unfortunately, none of these places come with a neon sign that flashes: We abducted your kin! Kill us now and get a free T-shirt. The pack will just have to find another way to narrow it down.

"Lots of places to be hiding one man." Nadya says, while looking around. "We could check out some of these companies and see if they're just a thin front. Or we could just do that mojo again and see if it works better up close." She looks over at Kasiya.

He looks back and nods.
"I could do that."
Or, we could step sideways and follow the trail of Banes.
Bad Things attract banes. Only Bad People would abduct Kin, Bad People do Bad Things, thus Banes. He manages to express his sarcastic thought in a slightly more acceptable manner though, if only because he feels he ought to speak like a proper Theurge. The Homid expect that kind of thing after all:
"We may be able to see more from across the gauntlet. If whoever took Jan bears taint they will attract Banes."

"They used some weird shit to drug me and Saxon when we met those goons. Even managed to knock me out on my warform, we really had to get busy to kill them all before passing out..." Vasara looked at the building of pharmaceutical company. "No dentist or lawyer is able to make stuff like that. They would need big facilities and laboratories to create it."
"Umbra can be... difficult here. I doubt that I even could pass through the Gauntlet here, stepping sideways is not easy to me even in forest, but now we have theurge with us... You could check it out."
Vasara turned his head and looked at shopping centre and other buildings. "They really could be anywhere, as any building here could be just a front." Vasara looked again at the pharmaceutical company. "I have gut-feeling that they are involved, but would even they keep people they kidnap inside their own official building? So, can anyone of us sense the Taint of Wyrm?" Vasara asked to support Kamut's idea.
"There has to be clues around, we are just missing them."

"If." He looks around, no-one seemed to be volunteering and he certainly wasn't familiar with the gift. "But we have no way of knowing. I do not believe there are many Banes on this side of the city at all, so there are none to be drawn. Most of them seek the hive, it seems." Kamut looks over the other three, all from humans it would seem. "But that is no reason to be careless and go alone, I do not think I would have too much difficulty with the Gauntlet."
