There's little for Nadya to do but keep running, settling comfortably into the rhythym in the knowledge that Saxon is going to get eaten before she does.

Anna tried to keep up, knowing she wasn't as fast as the others, even in Lupus. She knew Tiergarten park wasn't far from Checkpoint Charlie, and therefore not far from the bane. She hoped she would have less trouble with the gauntlet there.

The pack reaches the park within minutes, all the time putting more distance between them and the group of banes. By the time they have reached Anna's designated spot in the park, most of the slower banes have given up the chase. The ones that keep up still outnumber them, however. As the pack stops, they huddle close together so Anna can pull them through as she steps sideways. The banes continue their approach, but the shift is instantaneous. Within the second the snarling, screeching banes have disappeared, and they find themselves back in the physical world. Nobody notices the four wolves as they appear in the twilit park. They seem to have picked a good spot.
As they get familiar with the physical surroundings, No-Eyes chuckled again in Anna's mind.[/i] "Masterfully done. Not only have you brought yourself and your pack to safety, but you've also led a pack of banes into a place a purity. They will surely take out their frustration on this one precious place of wyld energy." The pride was readily apparent in his tone. "I knew you had it in you, really."[/color]
Kamut manages to put some distance between him and the hounds, especially after he makes it to the inner city. After a while, he ducks out of sight and hides. The hounds search for a while, but they don't seem to be the brightest of spirits. They soon give up and start biting at each other instead. With the hounds so distracted, Kamut finds it easy to slip away.

As soon as the pack enters physical world Vasara checked the perimeter and turned around, just in case they had company with them. Shifting slowly into homid he stared at the sky. It felt good to be on this side of Gauntlet again. Spirits and their world were creepy, and Vasara had for some time already completely trusted the Bear he revered as his guide on spiritual things.
"Now that was fun." Vasara said with serious tone "We need others to whack that bug, it has too many friends around." Hoping that the ragabashes were capable on getting out of the harms way, he looked around again and said "I think we should purify this place before we return to the caern, so we don't leave any taint behind."
He looked one more time around, almost as if expecting Bane or two to jump through the Gauntlet at their necks.

Nadya takes her her natural form moments after Vasara. "Yeah, or lure it out of it's pit. The thing looked pretty damn tough though." She turns on Anna, the kid had been talking to herself all along and it's about time she offered an explanation. In a show of not being totally ignorant, Nadya does at least expect a rational explanation rather than assuming Anna is delusional. "Who the hell have you been talking to? Maybe if you'd kept your head on the task rather than talking to the open air you wouldn't of been so close to being eaten."

Anna looked around to make sure none of the banes had followed them through, and breathed a sigh of relief. Maybe they had tainted the place, but there was no point beating herself up about it now. They would just have to come back later, and cleanse it.
She looked up at Nadya. "Maybe so," she said. "But then I would've missed my chance to find out anything about that bane from the only person who has a clue."
She had a small window of opportunity where No-Eyes seemed proud enough to be helpful. Will you tell me about the bane now? she asked him.

The way looked clear, there was no sign of any banes reaching through the gauntlet after them.
"Anyone can harm the spirit world, it's very easy, that's not the deal I was offering. You know already what I want, before I will help you. An act of betrayal, subjugation or corruption against your supposed allies. Betray their confidence, perhaps, or enforce your dominance over one of the weak ones. Or show them the steps towards self-fulfillment at the expense of others, that they all deny themselves because they fail to see the enlightenment it offers."

"Yeah, fight on it's own pit could end up bad. And it looks like it is easy to lure those Banes around away too, when they figure out what we have done to the crabby, it will be way too late for them to turn and attack us." Vasara said to Nadezhda.
Vasara looked at Anna "You have been talking a while already, did that person have a clue or did he help? If not, he is not worth the trouble you are seeing. We know enough now, we should be able to figure out what that Bane is and how to kill it when we hit our wise heads together with the heads at the caern."
Vasara started casually to walk toward the caern. There was still one more way to try get some random tidbits of information so Vasara looked again at Nadezhda and asked "So, you're a galliard, eh? You know any stories with Banes like that?"

"Really? Who's that then?" Nadya says to Anna before turning back to the subject of the bane.
"We had some time before the banes turned up, but if it can hide behind illusions we could end up wasting a lot of time looking for it. If we could find a way of finding it despite them we might have some time to take it out before it's friends turn up." Nadya frowns, she hopes Vasara doesn't expect much of her because of her auspice. It had taken her a long time to reach her rank. "Not ones exactly like that, but I normally work on destroying banes that get in my way rather than studying them. I spend more time in the real world, but I've destroyed plenty of them on those times I've met them."

"No-Eyes-Ikthya, Athro Theurge of the Black Spiral Dancers, seer of the unseen, knower of the unknown, master of the masterless."
You know you're asking for too much. You might as well say you don't want to help me.
"Not much help," Anna said to Vasara. "And not worth the trouble." She probably should have known better than to ask No-Eyes for help. They always wanted too much in return.
Anna decided not to give No-Eyes the dignity of introducing himself to Nadya. Besides, it really wasn't any of her business. So she just ignored the question. "Now we know better than to fall for its tricks. Maybe someone at the Caern has the ability to see through illusions. If not, maybe we can find such a power elsewhere, maybe some spirit will help."

"Of course I want to help you, but I can only guide your actions with my wisdom, you have to forge the resolve to seek the truth yourself. You have shown much strength for your age, but it is misdirected and without a true cause. I can only hope you see the truth and follow my advice." Her attitude was clearly unwelcome from his tone, but it was as much sadness as frustration. "Anna, you should respect your superiors even if you're convinced they are enemies."

"So, back to the caern it is. Hopefully the ragabashes too get there soon." Vasara said over his shoulder "We know crabby's tricks and we know his friends. Few weaknesses would be nice too, but I believe we will be a lot smarter at the caern. At least it is slow, I bet if we get it out of it's pit and it's friends running after ghosts, the Bane would be easy prey. It didn't even flinch when Cloud-Dancer attacked it, so we might get stuck on some serious slugfest. And we definitely don't want those hounds and Scrags running on our heels then. Our best weapon is our speed and numbers, the swarm of Banes around it evens that out, so we need to get rid of them first."

Nadya might of slapped Anna around a bit for not answering her question, but the kid had already done so by answering Vasara so she shrugged it off. "We need to learn to start working together better. We've not exactly been working with each other long, huh? We should practise some pack tactics, coordinate our maneouvres, see what fits best and that we need the most."

You're right. I'm sorry. The truth was she just didn't see a point in getting angry at a voice in her head. But you asked me to betray my friends, right after they saved my life!
Trying to reason with the voices in your head it the first sign you're losing your mind. Anna hurried to catch up with Vasara as they started their way back, hoping Kamut and Cloud-Dancer had escaped with their skins intact.

"They only support you while you serve their ends, I can't truly see you as even having seriously considered the alternative. You have a great, proud birthright behind you as being descended from the first few that saw the truth. Not to mention the long line of your family that have chosen the Wyrm for generations, and danced the Black Spiral to seek the truth within themselves."
