Prepared for battle, the three packs set out through the Umbral city, following Saxon's lead as Wyrm Foe. And as they ran in the throes of rage, leaving the slower Garou to struggle to catch up, the warwolf of Fenris heard their battle cry and joined them. The large white dire wolf, which seemed to radiate rage and frost, took the lead with Saxon and charged into battle. Once they reached the centre of the city, they split up to go their separate ways.
As they neared Checkpoint Charlie, the stench of death and decay told Slagbröder they were close. To the others, this place looked like a wasteland. It was a large, dead pile of rubble. Not even the spiders dared approach it. The buildings here had no umbral representation, but seemed to have been razed to the ground. At most this area resembled a bombed Berlin, at the end of the second world war, a Berlin none of them were old enough to remember. Only the wall stood proud and strong, except at the checkpoint itself. There was an obvious way through to East Berlin, but it involved crossing the wasteland itself.
And there was a man standing on the rubble. He was watching them. He was a stocky man with a bald head which was covered entirely with tattoos.
He was waiting for them. And David knew he was waiting for him.
To the others he was a stranger, but even at this distance Anna had a pretty good idea who he was. She knew his name too. It was Kord.
David and Anna gain 1 rage over their limit must spend willpower not to Frenzy.

As they approach the wasteland, Hands of Mercy slides up and into his breed form, bow ready and trained on the figure before him while he scans the area for other threats. He awaits a signal to activate the banner and kick things off.

Vasara didn't know the person sitting in the rubble, but he was sure it would be either illusion or a bait. Propably both. He shifted into crinos and started to thicken his skin. "Wait." he said without even looking at anyone. "No-one approach until I say so. Prepare." ((Scent of the True Form to the baldie))
He looked at Hands-of-Mercy and Anna and started to sharpen his claws against rocks and rubble. "Let's see if he is real first. Then we need to flush the Bane out." Vasara looked again at the three garou in position of fire-support. "Rest of you, attack when I begin my Snarl. Then you will be at it's throat when I finish and it should be slowed down a bit."
Vasara took a final sip from his canteens and started to scan out for a Crab to Snarl at.

Anna picked the one good arrow and held it on the string, ready to strike. If she hadn't seen the illusion before, she didn't know what she would've done. But Kord would get to see his death at the hands of her pack sooner or later, just as she had promised.
"He wouldn't be here without his pack," she said. "The bane is screwing with my head." She could remember being this angry before. The last time, she had been tied up with bedsheets and slammed against the wall repeatedly. It wasn't a good feeling, but she used it. She stopped the rage taking over, calmed her mind, and called on the spirit of pain she'd bound to the arrow to strike hard and true. Then she let loose the arrow.
(Glabro, activate bane arrow and shoot into the pit.)

David choked down his rage and reminded himself that Johannes should be there as well. The two of them would see his fury and it wouldn't be now. He instead shifted to crinos and contained the rage within him. It would come out anyway in the heat of battle.
David couldn't understand Vasara too well since he didn't know the Mother's Tongue. Cloud-Dancer was going to teach him that later. He decided to just follow what Vasara had just told him earlier. Look for an opening, take it, and get out. Just like his fencing maestro told him to do.

It was that, a time all warriors knew, whether it was scrambling out of the trench or lowering your lance and urging your horse to the charge. The last moment of peace before it was kill or be killed.
He shifted up to Crinos and then reached down to find a stone and began to sharpen his claws.

Kamut also readied an arrow, and called on the spirit that Commands-the-Tides had bound within it to answer the call to battle. He didn't release it just yet.
Anna's arrow flew and curved downwards. There was a loud scream from the pit where the man was standing, and he flickered and disappeared. The ground began to shake and crumble beneath their feet. A hot, foul-smelling steam emerged from the rocks below, and they could see the bane finally. It was big enough to skewer three of them at once on its large pincers. The name 'crabby' was fitting. To a certain extent it did look like a gargantuan crustacean. Anna's arrow was stuck in its flank.

As the ground shakes beneath him, Hands of Mercy staggers a little, then tips back his head and howls. It was time for the Wyrm to know fear.

"Feuer frei!" Vasara roared and begun a loud Snarl against the Bane. It was time to kill and die if Gaia so willed. He found peace in thought that it didn't matter anymore if Bane managed to drag him to the pit. It would just mean he would get his claws raking at the beast sooner.

Anna scrabbled to her feet and away from the pit as fast as she could. She'd seen it before, and knew how fast it could grow and how difficult it would be get out once they'd fallen in. She didn't envy her packmates' position.
The first arrow had struck, but that was in no way thanks to her archery skill. Hands of Mercy had shown her the basics, but she was still struggling to hit anything. The spirit inside the arrow had done its job, however. But she didn't have any spirit arrows left.
It was with much apprehension that she called on Eagle-Eyes for help. Opening the channel with her ancestors left things open for the less helpful ones to jump in. Now really wasn't the time.
"Eagle-Eyes," she whispered. "Can you use a bow?"

Big buggar Saxon thought as he looked at the Bane, a giant crab indeed. He glanced at Vasara and at David. As Vasara began his snarl Saxon snapped out, “David go left, I am going right.”
One thing Saxon did know was that crabs can only attack forwards. So by him moving right, David left and Vasara remaining where he was the Crab could only go for one of them. Thus leaving the others free to act.
Going for the throat was out, Saxon was heading for the legs, mainly the joints, the weakest point. Once the beast lost movement it was finished.
(Attacking leg joints, spend rage for extra attacks.)

David nodded at Saxon and went around to the left. Hopefully he could get an attack in before the big crab went for him. He figured he'd attack and then slip out. After its attention was elsewhere, he'd attack again.
David went for the Bane's flank and prepared to dodge like hell should something go wrong.
(going for flank with claw, rage to claw, abort all to dodge if Crabby goes for David first.)

Kamut shot his arrow clumsily, but like Anna's, it was guided by the spirit within and it hit its mark easily.
The bane thrashed angrily as another arrow hit its mark. The warwolf howled as it approached. The pack felt the air grow cold and the area around the bane freeze. Its joints cracked and popped as they froze over. And for a while, the stench and heat subsided slightly, but only for a while.
Vasara's angry snarl echoed through the icy pit, but even now the ice was already melting, turning into steam in the heat.
But as David and Saxon charged, the bane hissed and struck with its pincers. The two Ahrouns changed their minds and did their best to avoid them, but it was difficult to move on the rough and crumbling ground. David lost his footing and stumbled, causing the bane to barely graze him. Saxon wasn't fast enough to get out of the way. The bane impaled him on its large pincer, digging straight through his abdomen and out the other side, and lifted him off his feet.
Anna called to her ancestorss, and for once, it was actually Eagle-Eyes who answered. “Use it?” he said. ”Why do you think they called me Eagle-Eyes? Let me guide you.” No longer on her own, Anna handled the bow expertly as she pulled it up, ready to reload.
Hands of Mercy felt a flash of new memories, similar to the ones when he had first joined with the raven. He heard a raven screech and the his chest burned again with the sign of Hrafnsmerki. Everyone could see it now, glowing gloriously in the darkness. It seemed to light the way for the Garou to fight, and darken the paths of their enemies. Even the bane seemed to notice its presence, and it screeched loudly as it thrashed towards the warwolf, sensing its doom.
From the east, they could now hear a deafening clap of thunder accompanied by rage-filled battle cry. And from the west, a howl of the abyss, mixed with a warning of the Wyrm's approach, could be heard. The archers, who actually could spare a second to look, could see the wolves approach from the west.
Initiatives and Status: Crabby: 9
Pack Initiative: 14 Vasara: 4/2/6 Saxon: 6/2/5 – takes 5 aggravated damage, is stunned, skewered and can regain rage (Must spend a willpower point not to frenzy) Kamut: 2/3/4 Anna: 5/2/4 +4 Archery gained
Hands of Mercy: 13 (4/2/3) David: 10 (6/1/3) Prone and can regain rage for botching.
Warwolf: 11
The bane stabbed at David again, trying to skewer him on the same pincer as Saxon and have two tasty meals at once.

When David saw Saxon skewered, he decided that the best thing to do would be to jump on top of the crab and try to hold it long enough for Saxon to free himself and hopefully get healed. He stood up and started to grapple with the pincer holding Saxon while hoping that he wouldn't end up the same way as Saxon.
There was fear in David's eyes, but in the face of another garou dying and him being a coward, he chose to try to save Saxon rather than flee.

It was the war wolf's turn to howl a battle cry. With a roar of rage, it charged at the bane while it was busy with its prospective meal. It grabbed the pincer that David was wrestling in its jaws, and started to tear it apart.
