Anna looked up when Vasara called to her, but the slimy things wouldn't let her leave that easily. She could barely stand, let alone walk, and they were wearing her down, crawling into her lungs and making it hard to breathe.
As Max carried her out of the pit, she coughed up the slimy things, but some of them were stuck in her lungs.
She stopped coughing when she saw Adiyah. She took a long drink from the brew and then reached out and touched her wounds.

Although Anna was hurt, and was finding it difficult to focus with all the slimy things in her lungs, Adiyah's wounds healed up, and the damaged organs reformed as Anna gave her gnosis.

Adiyah slowly came to, in a world of pain, darkness and confusion. She hurt, a fair bit. For a moment or two she thought perhaps she was dead. But the ground was hard underneath her, and the pain wouldn't have been there, right?
She blinked and sat up, looking about and spotting Anna by her side. Seeing the shape the young fenrir was in, she acted quickly, placing her hands on her. "Thank you, friend. I'll do what I can in return."

Anna's lungs and the deep wounds on her chest healed up almost completely. She coughed up the last of the slimy things, and found she could breathe properly again.

David acknowledged Vasara and went over to the wounded that required a bit more attention. His knowledge of sports medicine and some general emergency training would come in handy for this. He then went over to whatever wounded he could find and made the preparations to transport them wherever Vasara wanted.
He looked at Max and said, "Bind---your---wounds. Shame to bleed out." He did what little he could to start the clotting process on Max, so that he wouldn't lose more blood. He kept the weight off his leg and used a paw to start the process on his leg as well. David couldn't do much without a first aid kit, but after attending to Max he limped over to Cloud-Dancer and helped her with her wounds.

Yea Gaia he hurt all over and his head was thumping, but being on his ass was actually quite comfortable. From the actions of those around him it seemed that the battle was over so he could take his time in standing. So he did coming slowly to his feet and looking around at the scene of battle.

Cloud-Dancer shifted down to homid and placed Ben on the ground near the other wounded. "Good to see you're still on your feet," she said to David. She was badly wounded but she wasn't encumbered by it, thanks to Fenris' gift. "You'd better wrap that leg up too." She looked at the battle field. There was no need for words of praise. Victory was its own reward. But she was proud of him, and proud of the scars he had earnt. She gave Saxon a hand up. He looked a little disoriented and his wound looked serious. "You're going to need some help before you can walk," she said.
Then she looked around at the ones who were still on their feet. "Fling the banes into the pit," she said loudly. "And the Dancer with them. But bring our dead. We will honour our fallen and cleanse this place. Then we will bury them here, on the battlefield."
The War Wolf approached, weary and wounded. "This shall be their grave, and this shall be my lair," the War Wolf said. "Together with their memories, I will guard the wall for as long as it needs guarding. I will honour your request, children of bear, even the smallest of you have fought like true children of fenris." He looked at Kamut, and if a proud war-weary spirit could look sad, then that was what the War Wolf looked.

Anna smiled and gave Adiyah a hand up. "It's good to see you again," she said. "I am sorry about your friend."
As she said that, she looked over to where Hands of Mercy and Kamut were lying. She looked back at the pit. She didn't like this one bit but she had to do it. Holding her hand over her mouth and nose this time, so that the slimy things wouldn't find their way back into her insides, she ventured back into the pit and took Forest's Hunger. Then she saw the rat, hidden among the slimy things. She picked it up too, and placed it outside the pit, not near their fallen, but away from the banes and monsters. Because whichever way you looked at it, it was their fault he had turned to the Wyrm.
She unstrung Forest's Hunger. She would release the spirit, somehow. Then she'd bring it back and it bury it here, on the battlefield. "Goodbye," she said, very quietly. "It was an honour to fight with you."
She looked at Vasara closely but he seemed ok. She turned to Saxon and smiled. "I can't believe you ripped that thing to pieces in three seconds," she said, reaching out to touch his throat and heal his wound.

Vasara drank rest of his canteen, and kept looking around for further threats. He dug his claws into one of the hounds like hooks, and dragged it into the pit. They had won and they had paid a full price for the victory. He pointed at Kamut and Hands-of-Mercy "We don't bury them to the ground to be eaten by maggots. They deserve real funerals of old style." Vasara growled. "We will burn them and set their spirits free." he looked at dead garou, and begun to search for a boulder where he could engrave the name of the dead packmate with his claws. He would carve name of Hands-of-Mercy there too if he found a place. He was packless but still one of the Fenrir.
He glanced at the body of third dead mule, and decided it was not his duty to decide what would be done to him. Different people had different customs, and who he was to enforce his customs to others?

"We can't take them back with us," Cloud-Dancer said. Not through the Umbra, they would be slowed down in a dangerous area. And not through the physical world, definitely. "We don't have the means to make a funeral pyre here."
Though Cloud-Dancer looked somewhat apologetic, the War Wolf just said:
"Leave it to me. Save your essence for the wounded."
The war wolf stood over the bodies of the fallen, looking out into the pit. Then he roared and an icy cold wind picked up, and started blowing through the area. The whole party had to brace themself against the cold, or lose their footing. The War Wolf stood there, its fur blowing in the breeze, and the winds took with them the banes, piece by piece of their bodies being taken to the freezing gale and taken away. And the area was cleansed of the taint of the bane and the foulness of its pit. It looked like it might come alive again, one day. The pit itself shook and buried the rest of the banes and monsters in the ground.
Then, it started to snow.
Cloud-Dancer bowed to the War Wolf. "It has been my honour to fight alongside a great spirit of war," she said. "And to fight alongside these brave warriors."
"Without the banner, we could not have hoped to win this battle," she said finally. "Tonight, I know, he will join the greatest heroes in Valhalla, where the bearers of the raven banner are honoured for sacrificing their lives to ensure victory. And we will remember his sacrifice, and drink in his name, Sorrow's Hail. Silent-Hunter, will you perform the Gathering for the Departed?"
Micah did not waste time with words. Still in his Crinos form, he raised his eyes to the full moon and howled. And it was a howl that might have put the best of Galliards to shame. It was a sad mournful howl that spoke of heroes who walked to their deaths with pride, carrying the Raven Banner, accepting their fate. And he sang of the lost unwanted children of sin, the metis who had died here proving they were just as loyal, just as strong, and just as fearless as their Homid and Lupus cousins.
And as he howled, the skies filled with the cries of birds. And they looked up and saw three white swans circling overhead. As they flew closer, they became three women. They were young and beautiful with long golden hair, and they were clad in battle gear. But their faces were somehow old, like the War Wolf's, like those who had seen many battles. They held swords and their shields bore the fierce and wild face of Fenris.
The wind picked up again. Their faces grew numb, their blood ran cold. For a moment, it seemed that they would freeze solid in the cold. The wind continued to blow away the fallen, and finally, it blew away the frozen bodies of the dead, and they became part of the wind, the air, and the Umbral skies. And the battle-maidens flew with them, and became swans again.
Vasara, Cloud-Dancer, and even Anna recognised these women. Not long ago, Vasara and Anna had seen them at Anna's rite of passage. But this time they were here to perform another duty. And someday, they knew, they would come for them too. But not today.

Adiyah nodded to Anna and her gaze fell on Maria for a moment. She felt sad that the metis had fallen, it shouldn't have had to happen. But truth was, that one was never meant for this. She wasn't a fighter, but she had died that way as brave as she could. "It's alright, well it's not, but it is what it is. Thank you, I am sorry for your friends as well."
The thuerge watched silently, as the healing went on and the discussion about how to take care of the mess and care for their dead came up. She'd been about to scoop up the girl, unsure of how she would manage carrying Maria's body back, she hurt everywhere still. But as alpha it was her duty. When the War Wolf spun his magic and it began to snow, Adiyah barely registered the cold. Snow...........the purifier. May it cleanse this place.
Then it became clear that they were not going through with that plan. As the howl went out, Adiyah listened to it with a respectful nod. It was a beautiful tribute to their fallen. When the wind rose up she huddled in the cold but watched with eager and amazed eyes at what unfolded. She didn't know the swan women by name, but had heard stories of this sort of thing sung in legends. Off to a hall of heroes went all, if not Valhalla, then to sit with their own ancestors and watch over Gaia below. "Farewell for now, we will meet again." She whispered as the swans took off again and the wind slowed.
She shivered and tried to wrap the tatters of her jacket about her, though it did very little. Adiyah turned to survey the remainder. Yvonne was binding Claire's wounds, David had seen to Max's. There was most likely not enough gnosis to go around right now, but perhaps enough to get the ragabash on her feet for the journey back. "Strength of Many needs healing if there is any left."
If she hadn't been entirely out she'd have done it. Adiyah went to Max and put her hand on his shoulder. "Good to see you standing, friend. Thank you for coming to my rescue."

Max shivered. Even in Crinos his fur stood on end and froze over. He could hardly breathe from the cold. Unlike the Fenrir, he wasn't used to this sort of thing. When it was over and he thawed out, he shifted to homid and managed to speak without hurting his face. "Now that's something I've never seen before," he said. He knelt beside Claire and touched her face. She was cold, but she was alive. He had been sure this would have killed a human.
He smiled at Adiyah. He knew she would have done the same for him. There was no question.
"If not, I can carry her back," he said. They had done a lof of healing and he wasn't sure anyone had any gnosis left. Claire had stood with them and fought with them. She was part of the pack now.
He went over to the War Wolf and bowed his head slightly. He was not used to being in the presence of spirits like him, and he wasn't sure how to act. But as he was the Galliard, it was up to him to speak on behalf of his pack. "Our pack is deeply honoured to have fought alongside a War Wolf of great Fenris," he said. "We have given our best, and we will continue to give our best. Thank you, for fighting with us, and for protecting our wall and keeping our kin safe. I am just a Galliard, and I don't know the gifts of healing. But I can offer you my own essence, on behalf of my pack, Dämmerlicht, Lion's Children."
With that offered his gnosis to strengthen the War Wolf.

Vasara kept his good eye closed and took deep breaths of cold, icy air. It felt good, and it felt home. He had already given up his hope for returning home, so even a small thing like this was something worth enjoying. He then looked at the spirits, they were the same and Vasara felt both sad and proud.
Then he went to Ben, still laying on the ground unconscious. "We should try and get everyone on their feet. The road back might not be safe yet, and if we are carrying people they will slow us down at best and make us easy targets at worst." he looked at Saxon and Anna. "Do you have any juice left?"

Anna looked up and locked eyes with the swan-maiden who had accompanied her on her trial, and taught her her first gift. There were no words exchanged, but there was a connection between the tutor and student. Even in the freezing cold, she smiled.
That's how I want to go, she thought to herself. When I'm ready.
She looked through the snow at Vasara, and wondered if things would always be like this here. They had healed a piece of the city. This was the greatest thing she had ever been a part of. "Not enough for everyone," she said. She looked at Max and David. They wouldn't be able to run in their state. They would all be slowed down and they'd never make it home.

"Save it," Cloud-Dancer said. It was never a good idea to run out. It made them feel hollow and empty, and less Garou. Besides, they might need it later and the battle was over now.
"Patience heals all wounds," she said. "We'll just have to return the physical way. Saxon and I will go get the truck. Wait for us here."
She shifted to Lupus and waited for Saxon to join her. Then she led the way back to the village to get the truck.
